Our
Pastor
Matt
Burden
|

Welcome to the website of the Second
Baptist Church of Calais! My name is
Pastor Matt Burden, and I’ve been
serving as the pastor of 2BC since
February 2010. I was born in
northern Maine, and my growing-up
years were partly spent there and
partly on the mission field in
Brazil. I attended Houghton College,
where I met my wife Rachel and
studied missions and linguistics
while completing several missionary
tours of service in Africa (Sudan,
Tanzania, and Angola). I also
started writing novels in my spare
time, five of which have been
published (the most recent are my
Christian fantasy-adventure series,
The Hidden Kings Trilogy). |

After Rachel and I were married, we
followed God’s call toward pastoral
ministry. For three years, I studied
theology and ministry at Denver
Seminary and Rachel studied
education at Regis University. We
now have two children, Josiah and
Sam.
Aside from writing, my greatest
interests are in church history,
classic literature, and
cross-cultural studies. I also enjoy
wilderness hiking, canoeing, and
playing tennis. Feel free to check

major part of my work as pastor is a
ministry of intercessory prayer, so
